In today’s busy and hurried world, many of us find ourselves moving from task to task, often feeling disconnected or robotic in our daily lives. We may go through the motions, but do we feel alive?
Aliveness is more than just existing or living; it is a state of elevated awareness, vitality, and purpose that can transform how we experience the world.
So, What is Aliveness?
Aliveness is the feeling of being fully present in the moment, energized, and deeply connected to ourselves, the people around us, and our creator.
Think of the moments when you felt completely energized and engaged—while having a great time with family or friends, challenged by working something new, energized by a good workout, or hearing the birds chirping while walking in nature. These moments spark a sense of joy, connection, and high vitality, which are all important aspects of aliveness. Wouldn’t it be great if we could feel alive every day in our life?
Speaking of myself, I had some amazing moments where I felt greatly alive and fulfilled, like when I finished my first 100-mile bike ride, got my first medal for finishing second place in a 5K local run, or had moments of great connections to family and friends. Occasionally, I struggled to keep myself alive and fulfilled daily; hence, I realized I needed to work on personal development and growth to achieve that.
In this post, I wanted to share some insight and experiences on how to achieve that greater level of aliveness and fulfillment.
How could you achieve Aliveness?
1. Embrace presence mindset:
Aliveness begins with feeling fully present in your daily routine. Immerse yourself in the current moment without distractions. For example, when spending time with family, try to make it good quality time without getting distracted by social media. Engage your senses, like your sense of taste when eating a delicious meal or listening to birds chirping when you hike on a nature trail. Mindfulness, meditation, and conscious breathing techniques are other tools to connect yourself in the moment.
2. Seek a new challenge:
Finding a new challenge that brings you out of your comfort zone and pushes your limit will spark a great sense of aliveness in your life. When I started cycling, I made a challenging goal of riding 100 miles in one bike ride. Training and achieving a greater fitness level made me closer to my goal and gave me an unmatched feeling of aliveness and fulfillment.
3. Take care of your physical body:
Taking care of your body and your health by eating healthy, getting adequate sleep, and exercising would boost your level of energy, sharpen your senses, and bring more vitality and aliveness into your life. We all had our moments of feeling lifeless after being sleep-deprived, eating junk food, and not exercising.
4. Show more gratitude:
There are a lot of things we could be grateful for in our lives, such as the deep relationships with the people around us and the great bounties our creator gave us. Regularly reflecting on what you’re grateful for would lead to more positive emotions. It will give you a greater sense of satisfaction that will increase your level of aliveness and happiness.
5. Engage in a meaningful work:
When we engage in meaningful work and acts of service, our aliveness and sense of fulfillment amplify. Seek meaningful work that aligns with your purpose, like volunteer activities, and you will get more engaged, satisfied, and motivated.
6. Aliveness through purpose:
When driven by a clear sense of purpose, our lives will be filled with energy, meaning, and fulfillment. Purpose fuels a sense of aliveness because it gives direction and significance to our actions, leading us to live intentionally rather than passively.
Spiritual Aliveness
Being alive is not just a physical state; it’s a spiritual and emotional one as well.
From a spiritual perspective, aliveness is the state of being connected to the inner soul and purpose in life. In many faiths and spiritual traditions, the experience of being fully alive is linked to being in connected with the divine.
For example, in Islam, the Quran encourages believers to reflect on the signs of life all around them and to be mindful of the divine purpose in this world. The true essence of aliveness comes from being deeply connected to your Creator and following his guidance.
Conclusion
In this post, I tried to bring to light what aliveness is and some means to achieve it.
By cultivating aliveness, we not only enhance our well-being but also bring more joy, energy, and presence to our lives and those around us.
So, the next time you find yourself feeling drained or disconnected, pause and ask yourself: How can I feel more alive right now? The answer may lie in something as simple as a deep breath, a walk in the park, or or a heartfelt conversation.
Great post, Thank you Wassim for bringing light to this word. It is very refreshing. we get sucked into life sometimes and while pursuing great things we forget about living.
